Wilma Jean Oakes, 84, of Searcy, passed away December 7, 2019 at Unity Health in Searcy. She was born December 3, 1935 at Nogo, Arkansas to the late Charlie and Cora Yarber Boyd.
Mrs. Oakes was a member of the Church of Christ and dedicated her life to caring for others. She had an undeniable care for children. She had fostered numerous children over the years. Her care for others was also apparent in her lifelong career as a Certified Nurses Assistant. She was named CNA of the year in 2016 in which she retired at the age of 81.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Edith Brown; and four brothers, William, Odell, Cecil, and Owen Boyd.
She married Lenard Oakes January 20, 1951 at Shirley, Arkansas who survives. She is also survived by two sons, Johnny Oakes (Janet) of Searcy and Tommy Oakes (Carla) of Plainview; one daughter, Stacy Holleman (Jeff) of Searcy; four grandsons; one step granddaughter; one great grandson; five great granddaughters; and one great-great grandson.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2019 in the Sullivan Memorial Chapel with Bro. Robert Stewart and Tommy Oakes officiating.
