William Currie Dobbs, Jr. or Buddy as he was fondly known, was a member of the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He later founded a family with his wife of 32 years, Laurie Cavanagh Dobbs. With his entrepreneurial spirit and his wife, he began a family operated machine shop named Cody Industries Inc., that supported his family and children into their teen years. As a man of many interests he began computer programming, which lead to many other career opportunities that supported his family into adulthood. He later decided to use his wealth of knowledge to become an accomplished handyman and Vice President of a home improvement company.
Sadly, he battled with cancer and heart problems, which he finally succumbed to, passing away peacefully on his mother’s birthday-August 17, 2020. He was always a loving father and grandfather and loved his children and grandchildren with all of his heart. He was preceded in death by William Currie Dobbs (father), Floy Jean Dobbs Foreman (mother), Robert C. Dobbs (brother).
He is survived by his children: Lindsay (Robbin) Hood, Gregory Dobbs, Emily (David) Haertel, sister Ruth L. Taylor, brother John L. Dobbs, grandchildren; Christian and Cody Hood, Layne Brassley-Dobbs, Lillian, Claire and Jacob Haertel, Laurie Cavanagh (mother of his children), many nieces, nephews and friends.
His passions these last few years, while fighting stomach, liver and lung cancer were working on a model airplane and spending time with his children and grandchildren, sharing the vast amount of love and knowledge he accumulated during a life well-lived. Many people have referred to him as “the smartest person I’ve ever met”. Buddy Dobbs was a great man and he will be missed by many, many people.
