Walter Freeman Garrett, 70, of Higginson died June 15, 2020 doing what he loved, mowing his yard. He was born to the late Thomas Alfred and Bertha Chandler Garrett April 24, 1950 at McClelland. He married the love of his life, Ruby Fay Garrett, January 3, 1972 at Des Arc. The spent 38 wonderful years together while raising two children and enjoying what brought their way.
Walter claimed to be a retired farmer, working the land to support his family. Anyone who knew him knows he continued to enjoy working well into retirement. He was a wonderful storyteller, had a great sense of humor, and loved sharing jokes with his family. Walter was always willing to help those in need, no questions asked, and nothing expected in return. He spent his free time with his favorite granddaughter, Jo Jo and his favorite grandson, James. He could be heard singing his favorite song, “I’ll Fly Away”, a song he learned from his father. Walter left an imprint of love on the hearts of his family and friends.
Along with his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Fay; and granddaughter, Rose Alyn Stifle, daughter of Audrey Stifle.
He is survived by his daughter, Audrey Stifle (David) of Searcy; son Wendell Freeman Garrett (Beth); and three grandchildren James and Jo Jo Stifle and Rebecca Bailey.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m. June 18, 2020 at Trinity Pentecostal Church of God at Higginson. All are welcome to attend.
