Vera B. Ratliff was born on June 22, 1927 in Cleveland County, Arkansas to Buford and Gladys Broach. She attended school in Rison, AR. She was one of seven children in the family and the last surviving child. She married Russell Melvin Ratliff, Sr. in 1945, 13 days after they met upon his return from serving in the Navy during World War II.
She was predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband, and three children; Wayne Ratliff (Perlita), Debbie Richards, and Becky Free, and one grandson, Steven Richards. Vera is survived by four children: Mel Ratliff, Jr. (Vickie) of Albuquerque, NM, Patricia Griffin Dunn (John) of Garfield, AR, David Ratliff (Lou Ann) and Mark Ratliff (Yolanda) of Little Rock, AR. “Mammaw” is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Vera also is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as members of Russell’s family and many friends.
Vera lived the majority of her life in Little Rock, AR and for the last six years was a resident of Concordia Nursing Home in Bella Vista, AR where she passed.
Vera devoted herself to supporting her husband and raising her family. She loved God and she and her husband were one of several families who started a congregation of the church on Sandstone Drive in Little Rock. She was the ultimate hostess to innumerable groups of friends, family and church family in her home over the years.
Services for Vera will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Sandstone Drive Church of Christ at 13300 Sandstone Drive in Little Rock, AR. There will be a brief visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by her service at 10:30 a.m. The service will be given by Mike Steiner and Lee Motes. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Cleveland County at 1:30 p.m. Please wear masks to the services, if you forget your mask, they will be available at the entrance. We ask that families sit together for the protection of others and to promote social distancing.
