Velma Jean Baker

Velma Jean Baker, age 83, of the Staves community near Rison, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014. Mrs. Baker was born March 5, 1931 in Rison, a daughter to the late William Irvin Wilson and Velma West Wilson. She was a graduate of Rison High School and a retired auditor for the Arkansas Sales Tax Division. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Baker is preceded in death by three brothers, James Irvin "Junior" Wilson, Roy Vernon Wilson and William Woodrow Wilson and two sisters, Eula Belle Clark and Vana Lee Atchison. Left to cherish her memory is one son, Mike Baker and his wife Catherine of Dardanelle; one sister, Willa Mae Swilling of Hot Springs; one sister-in-law, Mary Marie Wilson of Grapevine and two grandchildren, Kristyn Baker and Aaron Baker both of Dardanelle. Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Buie Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 27, 2014 in Shady Grove Cemetery near Grapevine with Barbara Brewer officiating. Arrangements are by Buie Funeral Home of Rison (870) 325-6216.
