Thurman Baker, 81 of Sheridan died Friday, September 5, 2008 at his home. He was born February 19, 1927 in Traskwood Arkansas, a son of the late Roy Hick Baker Sr. and Leta Grace Lewis Baker. Mr. Baker was a World War II army veteran and a retired employee of the Grant County Courthouse after 31 years of service in the maintenance department. Mr. Baker was also a carpenter. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Eveline Sadie Ferguson, Marcille Taylor, Helin Pete Brown; four brothers, Roy Baker Jr., Francis, Harley, and James Levi Baker.
Survivors include his wife, Drewlene Parnell Baker of Sheridan whom he married on December 6, 1952; two sons, Thurman Baker Jr., and Robby Baker, both of Little Rock; two daughters and sons-in-law, Leta and Lavon Lampkin Jr. of Arkansas City, Janet and A.J. Ward of Ashland Missouri; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Willis and Laurie Baker of Whitehall, Jerry and Linda Baker of Sheridan; two sisters, Annie Purtle of Sheridan, Creva Bunny Culpepper of Houston Texas; three grandchildren, Tommy and Jason Steel, Jessica Baker.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2008 at Buie Funeral Chapel in Sheridan with Brother Jim Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Center Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to Hospice Angels, 3801 Camden Rd., Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603. Arrangements are under the direction of Buie Funeral Home of Sheridan.
