Thomas Lewis

Thomas (Tom) David Lewis age 89 of Rowell, went home to be with his Lord on December 8, 2008. Mr. Lewis was born April 13, 1919, at Rowell, Cleveland County, Arkansas and lived there all but two of his remaining years. He was a son of the late Thomas Lucius Lewis and Jennie Smith Lewis. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Hobert and James Lewis. He is survived by brother, Dewell Nick Lewis of Florida. At the time of his death he was living in Rison with his caretakers, Danny and Teresa Thomas where he lived for two years. He died at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, Arkansas where he was being treated by Dr. Mark Ramiro. Mr. Lewis was a retired log cutter, having worked in the CC Camp in 1937. He enjoyed raising a garden every year and visiting with his family and friends. Mr. Lewis was a member of Center Missionary Baptist Church where he was baptized on October 26, 2008. He also attended church at New Beginnings Baptist Church on Old Warren Road in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Mr. Lewis was also preceded in death by his first wife, Genyce Jacks Lewis, survivors include two daughters, Linda Butcher and Brenda Pollard both of DeWitt, Arkansas; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren; he was also preceded in death by his second wife, Macel Roberts Lewis; survivors include step children, Billy White and wife Shirley, Shirley Funderburg and husband Freddie, Betty Lou Moore and husband Carl, Corita Coats; several step grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Center Missionary Baptist Church at Rowell with Brother Doney Blackerby and Brother Charles Cantwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Rowell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Buie Funeral Home in Rison. Pallbearers are Tommy Standridge, Billy Cole, Danny Jacks, Mike Thomas, Marvin Rauls, and Owen Ashcraft. Honorary pallbearer is Buster Cole. Arrangements are under the directions of Buie Funeral Home of Rison.
