Southworth “Buddy” Orcutt, 82, of Malvern, formerly of Searcy, entered into eternal rest November 26, 2019 at CHI St. Vincent’s in Hot Springs. He was born March 26, 1937 at Luray, Virginia to the late Milton and Marian Southworth Orcutt.
Buddy obtained Bachelor’s of Science in Business from Ole Miss in 1959 and pursued several jobs in that field. He went on to work at Mohawk Rubber Company in West Helena, Ark. from 1966 to 1979. He took advantage of the re-training program offered to employees when Mohawk closed. He received an Associate’s Degree of Applied Science from Phillip’s County College and passed boards as a medical laboratory technologist (MLT) and later went to Memphis State, now Memphis University, and completed the required hours needed to take boards to become a medical technologist (MT). During the time he was completing degrees, he worked in the lab at Helena Hospital. He later received an Associate’s Degree of Applied Science and passed boards as a Registered Nurse. He continued to work at the Helena Hospital through 1992, when he went to work at Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy, now Unity Health, as a cardiac step-down RN. He retired from Unity Health as an administrative nursing supervisor at the end of 2017 at the age of 80.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Kissinger; and grandson, James Hill.
He married Patsy Campbell Orcutt April 8, 1995 in the Thorn Crown Chapel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas; who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Tammy Orcutt Meziere (James) of Nederland, Texas; son, Mike Igou (Kim) of Malvern; seven grandchildren, Hunter Orcutt Meziere, Cade Orcutt Meziere, Amy Maners, Andria Russell, Molli Igou (Ed), Michelle Stephens, and Megan Allen (Mitchell); eighteen great-grandchildren; and one sister, Cynthia Virden (Joe) of Greenville, Mississippi.
Visitation will be 1 until 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2019 with funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the Sullivan Memorial Chapel with Bro. Ed Meherg, officiating. Cremation is to follow in the Ascension Crematory.
