Ruthie Elva Taylor, age 87 of Grapevine, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2009 at her home. She was born January 24, 1922 in Grapevine, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Vin and Ruthie Johnson Blackerby. Mrs. Taylor attended five of the Grapevine Schools and was a faithful member of Sardis Missionary Baptist Church. She had worked for Browns Furniture Company and Sterling Faucet Company, both in Sheridan. Mrs. Taylors hobbies were gardening, yard work, and quilting. She was happiest when spending time with members of her large family and her friend, Geneva Massey. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, S.W. Dub Taylor; daughter, Louise Elizabeth Taylor; grandson, James Douglas Taylor; daughter-in-law, Betty Plunkett Taylor; sister, Marshie Jane Hedden; three brothers, Vindell Blackerby, Joe Bud Blackerby, and Boyd Frank Blackerby.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Perry and Lottie Taylor of Sheridan, Wayne and Gletta Taylor of Pine Bluff; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Harvey Heird, Carolyn and Joe Strode, Beth and Truman Moltz, all of Pine Bluff; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; sister, Johnnie Bratton of Sheridan.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Sardis Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Donnie Blackerby and Brother Ronald Young officiating. Burial will follow at Grapevine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Buie Funeral Home in Sheridan. Mrs. Taylors grandsons will serve as pallbearers in her honor. The family requests memorials may be made in her name to Sardis Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund in care of Mack Riggins, P.O. Box 60, Grapevine, Arkansas, 72057.
