Ruthie Lee Hall Smith, 72, of Sheridan went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 after a long battle with cancer. She was born August 29, 1936 in Borger, Texas, a daughter of the late Earl and Jennie Lee Hall. Ruthie was a 1955 graduate of Sheridan High School. On February 16, 1957 she married Bert L. Herring. She was a homemaker and a member of Center Grove Methodist Church. Ruthie love to sew and go fishing. As her health declined, her interests changed and she became a devoted Atlanta Braves baseball fan. Ruthie loved her family and friends with all her heart. She always had a come back for all of us. Ruthie has faced many difficult situations in her life but with her faith and trust in the Lord, she has met each challenge. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1966; her son, Bert Lawson Herring who drowned on his 16th birthday in 1976.

She is survived by her husband, Ross Smith whose constant devotion, love, and care taking is the example of what a true marriage is; daughter and son in law, Pam and Larry Peterson of East End; grandson, Corey Peterson also of East End.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2008 at Buie Funeral Chapel in Sheridan with Reverend Dan Brand and Reverend Jim Bacon officiating. Burial will follow at Center Grove Cemetery near Sheridan. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at the funeral home. Pallbearers are: Jon Staton, Thomas Mitchell, Herbert Pierce, Randy Staton, and Earl Smith. The family requests memorials may be made to Hospice Angels, 3001 Camden Rd, #12, Pine Bluff, AR 71603.
