Robert Howard (Bob) Wilson

Robert Howard (Bob) Wilson, 84 of Woodlawn passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 at his home. He was born November 11, 1924 at Calmer a son of the late Ira and Sarah Berry Wilson. Mr. Wilson graduated from Woodlawn High School, and received his degree in Agriculture from Arkansas A & M, currently known as University of Arkansas at Monticello. He taught agriculture at Rison before going into management for the B.F. Goodrich Company. Mr. Wilson finished his career as a cattle farmer and worked 29 years as a Switch-man for the Cotton Belt Railroad, before retiring in 1989. He was a World War II veteran, member of the VFW and UTU, and a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church for many years. Mr. Wilson was avid hunter and fisherman, and a charter member of the Wilson-Norton Hunting Club where he served as President for many years. Bob's two passions were tending his vegetable garden and watching Woodlawn High School Baseball games, where he was a fixture for many years. He was preceded in death by five brothers; William, Thomas Doke, Rufus, Martin Luther, Jewel (Shorty); two sisters: Virginia and Easter Lilly.

He is survived by his wife of fifty four years, Frankie Reynolds Wilson of Woodlawn; five children, Brenda Tipton of Little Rock, Donna French of Fort Worth, Texas; Katenia Chambers of Henderson, Kentucky; Rob Wilson of Dallas, Texas, and Lane Wilson of New York City, New York; one sister, Margaret May of Calmer; nine grandchildren; ten great grand children.

Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with Brother William Paul Woolley officiating. Burial will follow in Grapevine Cemetery. Pallbearers are Troupe Bryant, Kyle Tipton, Dane Reed, Justin Barr, Dennis May and Jimmy May. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Buie Funeral Home in Rison. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Betty Patrick, 200 Pumpkin Hill Road, Rison, Arkansas 71665. Arrangements are under the direction of Buie Funeral Home of Rison (870) 325-6216.
