Robert McKee Diel, 80, of Searcy, Ark., died January 16, 2020 at Community Compassion Center in Searcy. He was born June 15, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Charles and Nell Diel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Jim Diel.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Murphy Diel; sons, Stan Diel of Florence, South Carolina and Scott Diel of Tallin, Estonia; grandson, Uko Robert Diel; sister, Jane LeDoux of Cannon City, Colorado.
He was a graduate of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed by Cessna Fluid Power Division in Hutchinson, Kansas and at Eaton Corp. in Searcy, Arkansas. Bob, who was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Ordinance Corps after graduating college, enjoyed hunting and fishing and served as a volunteer firearms safety instructor for the state of Kansas and as an assistant scoutmaster. He was an enthusiastic though mediocre golfer who scored his first and only hole-in-one at age 78, and was a lover of Labrador retrievers he struggled to train. His beloved Jake would bolt from the blind upon hearing the report of the shotgun only to swim back visibly upset, if no duck had been hit. Bob retired in Searcy where he was active in conservation of the Little Red River and served on the board of Trout Unlimited. Bob was also a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry and various committees.
A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2020 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Searcy with Ftr. Mark Harris officiating.
