Richard Hewdell Buchanan

Richard Hewdell Buchanan, 86, of Garden City, Michigan (formerly of Sheridan, Arkansas) passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014. Hewdell was born July 15, 1928, in Sheridan, a son of the late Richard Hewdell and Lela Sally Rhodes Buchanan. At 20 years old, he married Willa Mae Stevens then moved to Michigan to work for Ford Motor Company. He worked in advertising for 34 years, retiring early to care for his wife. He had a love for guns and entertainment so he taught police how to shoot firearms as well as putting on Old West Reenactments for church groups, boy scouts, schools and store openings. Gun safety was always highly expressed. He worked in western movies doing "Fast Draw" in the 1950's - 1960's with the Lone Ranger and Roy Rogers. Mr. Buchanan was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dewayne F. Buchanan , his wife, Willa M. Buchanan, children, Sandra, Richard, and Steven Buchanan. He is survived by his daughters, Jude Leonard and Stephanie Buchanan, both of Garden City, Michigan; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A private family burial was held Thursday, September 25, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Rhodes Cemetery in Grant County by Buie Funeral Home of Sheridan. Online register: www.buiefuneralhome.com
