R. L. Jacks

R.L Jacks age 86, lifetime resident of the Rowell Community, went to be with his Lord on Monday, January 3, 2011. He was born April 12, 1924 in Rowell, a son of the late Jim Jacks and Radie Starks Jacks. Mr. Jacks retired from the United States Army, where he served during World War II. While serving in the Army, he served in the Southern Pacific, U.S. Naval as a Navy Gunner, serving aboard the SS Gulfport Tanker, the SS Irving M. Scott, Tanker, the SS Lyman Stewart, Transport. He also was a Military Policeman, serving in Japan, Germany and France, retiring in 1965, after twenty years of service. He retired from International Paper Company after twenty years and was a retired farmer and cattleman. Mr. Jacks was a charter member of the Rowell Deer Club. He was faithful member of Center Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Jacks was also preceded in death by three brothers, Junior Jacks, Joe Jacks and Jerry Jacks.

Mr. Jacks is survived by his wife of sixty four years, Betty Richardson Jacks of Rowell, whom he married on December 24, 1946 in Rison; four children and their spouses, Danny and Marcell Jacks, Mary Ann and Donald Parrish, Patti Wilson, all of Rowell, Jeanie and Billy Bates of Star City; two brothers and sister-in-law, James and Pauline Jacks of Rison, Ralph and Joyce Jacks of Jonesboro; two sisters, Anlean Vinson of Rowell and Fern Vinson of Pine Bluff; six grandchildren and their spouses, Paul and Christie Donaldson of Woodlawn, Leigh Anne Parrish of Woodlawn, Kristy and Wayne Herrington of Pansy, Cindy and Jeremy Easter of Rowell, Greg and Christy Jacks of Rowell, Ashley and Kevin Hawkins of Star City; ten great grandchildren, Alex Donaldson, Callie Donaldson, Katie Donaldson, Brooke Herrington, Shelby Herrington, Kirstin Jacks, Jacob Jacks, Kagan Easter, Maggie Claire Hawkins and Kooper Hawkins.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Center Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Doney Blackerby and Brother Jackie Richardson and Brother Jordan Ferris officiating. Burial will follow in Rowell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Buie Funeral Home in Rison.
