Garner

Otis Barnes, 78, of Garner, passed away November 18, 2020 at Unity Health in Searcy.  He was born October 21, 1942 at Magness, Arkansas to the late James Otto and Dovie Abbiegail Flippo Barnes.
Otis was always an active man who started out his service to his fellow man when he enlisted in the United States Navy.  After his honorable discharge from Naval service, he returned to Searcy where he attended Foothills Tool & Die.  It was this part of life where Otis met Kathy Langston in 1972 which lead to a wonderful 48 years of matrimony and children and many grandchildren.  More recently, he was an active member of the Garner Missionary Baptist Church, the McRae Masonic Lodge, McRae Eastern Star, but the titles he loved the most was husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Otis never met a stranger and always loved talking about the Lord.   After his training at Foothills, he remained gainfully employed until his retirement as a over-the-road truck driver, pipe fitter, millwright, and many years on the towboats running up and down the Arkansas and Mississippi Rivers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons, Otis Barnes, Jr. of Garner, and Scott Barnes (Margret) of Fort-Smith; one daughter, Jeniffer Hurt (Jeffrey) of Garner; six grandchildren, Emily, Angel, and Raquel Barnes, and Andy, Caleb, and Kaitlynn Hurt (Jordan); his pride and joys, three great grandchildren, Chloe Barnes, Kinsleigh Pinner, and Bradley Carter-Hurt; a brother, Dayton Barnes (Carolyn) of Proctor, Ark.; sister-in-law, Kathrine Barnes of Hot Springs; mother-in-law, Katheryn Langston (James) and father-in-law, Wilford Langston (Johnnie); as well as numerous extended family and friends.
Visitation will begin 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 23, 2020 at Sullivan Memorial Chapel with funeral services at 2:00 with Pastors Glenn Shults and Dayton Barnes, Officiating.  Cremation will follow services.
