Olen Dale Vailes

Olen Dale "O.D." Vailes, age 77, of Grapevine, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. Mr. Vailes was born July 8, 1936, in Grapevine, to the late William Walter and Anna Plunkett Vailes. He was reared and received his education in Grapevine, where he graduated from Grapevine High School in 1956. He worked for the Cotton Belt Railroad for 35 years, retiring as a foreman/supervisor. Mr. Vailes married Betty C. Reynolds on September 22, 1956, in the Ain Community, near Grapevine. He was a member of Sardis Missionary Baptist Church and was President over the Davis Cemetery Association for many years. Mr. Vailes enjoyed working outside, mowing, and riding his tractor with his faithful companion, his dog, "Bobby". He loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed and looked forward to going out to eat on Friday nights. Mr. Vailes is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty C. Vailes; three daughters, Kay (David) Wood, Becky (Jerry) Pfaffenberger, and Carolyn (Johnny) Tanner, all of Grapevine; eight grandchildren, Valarie (Tommy) Stevens, David Dale Wood III, Jason (Brandie) Tanner, Brittany Pfaffenberger, Laci Tanner, Shaynna Tanner, Nicole Pfaffenberger, Brandy (Greg) Haley; five great-grandchildren, Nathan Stevens, Dakota Stevens, Hadley Tanner, Nicholas Haley, Hunter Haley; and one great grandchild on the way; two brothers, John Vailes of Pine Bluff and Rayvon Vailes of Sheridan; step-mother, Bernice Vailes Evans of Sheridan; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 8, 2014, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m., at Buie Funeral Home in Sheridan. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, June 9, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Buie Funeral Home with Pastor Ronald Young and Brother Curtis Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Ain Cemetery in Grapevine. The family has requested that memorials take the form of contributions to Sardis Missionary Baptist Church, 80 Grant 18, Grapevine, Arkansas 72057. The family will be at the home of Carolyn (Johnny) Tanner, 513 Grant 3559, Grapevine, Arkansas. Pallbearers are David Dale Wood III, Jason Tanner, Tommy Stevens, Scott Vailes, Chris Vailes, Michael Nelson, Dustin Eads, Jonathan Willis, and Dylan Reap.
