Ola Mae (Mitchell) Cowan

Ola Mae Mitchell Cowan, 92, of Kensett passed away May 9, 2020 at her residence.  She was born November 25, 1927 at Aberdeen, Mississippi to the late Alvin and Ossie Mae Howell Mitchell Sr.
Mrs. Cowan was a member of Arnold Tabernacle CME Church in Kensett.  She was a very active and dedicated member of the church where she was known as the Matriarch and Mother of the Church.  She served on the Missionary Society as well as the Stewardess Board.
She married William Cowan April 13, 1947 at Wynne, Arkansas.  He preceded her in death March 25, 2013.  In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Cowan; two daughters, Deborah Brown and Stephanie Cowan; three brothers, Alvin Mitchell, Jr., Leo Mitchell Sr., and Wesley Mitchell; as well as one sister, Louise Mitchell.
She is survived by four daughters, Flora Mae Cowan Curtis of Searcy, Dr. Larine Y. Cowan of Urbana, Illinois, Evelyn Joyce Cowan of Champaign, Illinois, and Jeanette Cowan of Kensett; seven grandchildren, James Anthony Brewer (Ronda), Paula L. Baker (Richard), Alexander Cowan, Audra Cowan, William Cowan (Danielle), James Wesley Brown (Chanell), and Lakita Cowan Watson; eighteen great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Lillie Mae Mitchell and Frances Mitchell of Hot Springs; one brother-in-law, Oscar Cowan of Las Vegas; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2020 at Sullivan Funeral Care.  Funeral services (limited to 50 attendees) will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2020 in the Sullivan Memorial Chapel with burial following at White County Memorial Gardens.  Funeral Services will be available live stream on our Facebook page:    https://www.facebook.com/SullivanFuneralCare.
