Noah Franklin Reed age 89 of the Y Community near Rison, died Sunday, January 6, 2008 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. He was born July 19, 1918 in Rison, a son of the late Isaac Noah and Armendia Harris Reed. Mr. Reed was an Army Veteran, serving an Airborne Engineer during World War II. He retired from the Pine Bluff Arsenal after twenty nine years of service. Mr. Reed enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. He was a Mason and a member of Bethel Number One Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Reed was also preceded in death by one son, Vernon Dale Reed; seven brothers, Havis Reed, Tommie Reed, Jack Reed, Calvin Reed, Obin Reed, Sidney Reed and Alfred Reed; two sisters, Belvia Reid and Josephine Works.
Mr. Reed is survived by his wife of sixty two years, Edna Merle Smoot Reed; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bill Gray; three grandchildren and spouses, Kim and Rodney Reed, James and Katia Gray, all of the Y Community, Robert and Dayna Reed of Lake Charles, Louisiana; five great grandchildren, James Ryan Reed, Harrison Reed, Abby Gray, Isaac Gray and Lilly Gray all of the Y Community.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at Buie Funeral Chapel in Rison with Brother Jim Tollison officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilson Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, January 7, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home in Rison. Memorials may be made to Bethel Number One Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 370, Rison, Arkansas 71665 or Gideons International, P.O. Box 216, Rison, Arkansas 71665. Pallbearers will be James Jim Gray, Rodney Reed, James Powell, Ronald Thompson, David Davis and Clinton Reed.
