Nita Joyce (Galyon) Mayo

Nita Joyce Mayo of Sheridan, Arkansas passed away June 29, 2024 at the age of 91. She was born on September 12,1932 in Denison, Texas to Claude Edward Galyon and Jewell  Vesta (Stroud) Galyon .  About a year after graduating from Borger Public Schools in Texas, she met and soon married John Francis Mayo on Christmas day, 1951.  They were blessed with two children. In 1965 Johnny and Nita were transferred, through his job, to work in Smackover, Arkansas. She worked many years at Smackover High School as the Principal’s secretary, Dr. Warren’s Family Clinic and Ouachita County Hospital.  Nita moved to Sheridan Arkansas to live with her daughter’s family in 1996 after Johnny’s death in 1991. In Sheridan Nita would occasionally substitute at the County Extension office. She enjoyed water aerobics for several years, loved reading and also helped her grandkids stay out of trouble with their Mom.

Nita knew and loved the Lord since she was a little girl. She was blessed to see four generations grow up in the Lord, teaching their children in the Lord. East Smith Street Church of Christ in Benton, Arkansas was her home congregation. Nita was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a sister. Those loved ones left behind to cherish her memory are children,  Russell E. (Jana) Mayo of Texarkana, TX and Vesta J.(Bobby) Harris of Sheridan;  grandchildren, John David (Mindy) Blagg, Celeste (Bo) Smith, Ali (Cody) Deal, Chase Harris, Morgan (Kevin) Raboin, Gabriel (Ashley) Harris  and 13 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Smackover Memorial Park Cemetery in Smackover, Arkansas.
