Nathaniel Lee Newton

January 8, 1953 — October 19, 2023

Nathaniel L. Newton departed this life on Oct. 19, 2023, in Searcy Ar. He was born in Detroit MI on Jan 8, 1953, to Jesse James & Bea. As an infant his grandmother Emma Young brought him to West point AR where she raised him along with James A, Bobby, and Lindell.

Nathaniel was a graduate of Searcy High school class of 1971. After school he worked at a few different factories including Wal-Mart, Speed Queen and Land O' Frost before landing a job at Trip Farms working for his good friend Billy Ray Trip for many years. Although growing up away from his siblings he had close family bonds with the Dardens, Guests, Bakers and Hills. He loved to fish, hunt, especially 'coon' hunt with his good buddies, and he raised chickens and roosters throughout his life. Nathaniel was a lifelong member at St. John Missionary Baptist church in West Point AR. He strayed away for awhile but came to realize God was indeed his ever-present help. He became more active in the church. He was a Deacon, sang with the choir and helped with the upkeep of the church and grounds. Nate loved to praise the Lord! His infectious spirit was felt and well received at all services he attended.

He never married or had any children, but he had a special relationship with his dog Brown Sugar aka Sugar. You would see them riding together in his truck all over town going to Dollar General, Wal-Mart or just to visit friends & family. Nate was loved and cared for by so many and to most of his loved ones and numerous friends he was affectionately known as "Nate the Great!"

Nathaniel was proceeded in death by his grandmother Emma Young, parents Jesse James Newton & Bea, brother James Winbush, his special Aunt Carrie Brewer, and cousins James A Brewer & Bobby Brewer.

He leaves to cherish his memory sisters Gloria Newton, Vivian Winbush ( Aaron), Pamela Winbush, and brothers Andre Winbush, Kenneth Winbush all of Detroit MI. and cousin Lindell Bailey (Carolyn) of Kensett AR. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Funeral Services will be held at Sullivan Funeral Care Chapel on Saturday, October 28, 2023 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at West Point Cemetery.
