Myrtle Mae Herrington

Rison

Myrtle Mae Herrington, went to be with her Lord on November 4, 2024. She was born February

4, 1937 in Rison to the late Clarence and Annie Lou Dixon Puckett. In addition to her parents,

she was preceded in death by her brother Levon Puckett. She married her late husband George

Herrington on July 22, 1954 at the home of the late Reverend and Mrs. Veo Glover in Star City,

Arkansas. Their union was blessed with 66 years of companionship and mutual devotion—a

picture of love that reflected the teachings of Christ.

She was gifted in many ways; her hands were always busy. A talented seamstress, she took great

pride in designing and sewing clothing for herself, her husband, her children, grandchildren, and

great-grandchildren. In addition, she loved working in her garden, where she spent countless

hours tending her flower beds, delighting in the beauty of God’s creation.

An active member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, her contributions went beyond her

attendance. She embodied the spirit of servitude and community, lending her hands and heart to

various church activities. A woman of faith, she served as a Sunday school teacher, reaching out

with compassion to the souls in her community. Her heart yearned for the lost, and she invited all

to experience the boundless love of Jesus Christ, the cornerstone of her life. She inspired many

with her unwavering dedication, reminding all of the love of her Lord.

Before retiring in 1999, Myrtle worked diligently in garment factories in Star City, Warren,

Herbine, and Rison. Her relentless work ethic stood as a shining example to her family,

reinforcing the values of dedication and resilience that she wished to impart upon the generations

to come.

She is survived by her children, Rita Shirey of Star City; Brenda Pope and her husband Eddie of

Sheridan; and Wayne Herrington and his wife Kristy of Macedonia; grandchildren Lori Shirey,

Jeremy Shirey and his wife Jessica, Blake Pope and his wife Shannon, Josh Pope, Brooke

Harvey and her husband Kirk, and Shelby Boothe and her husband Tucker; great-grandchildren,
