Morris Grice

January 21, 1919 — August 19, 2009

Morris Grice, 90, of Pine Bluff went to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was born January 21, 1919, to the late O. V. and Anna Grice of near Kingsland. After graduating from Kingsland High School, Mr. Grice attended Arkansas A & M College in Monticello, where he was on the basketball team. He served during World War II as a gun crewman in the 206th Coast Anti-Aircraft Arkansas Army National Guard, participating in the Aleutians Campaign during the Japanese attack on Dutch Harbor. Mr. Grice was awarded several honors, including two Bronze Stars. After being discharged from the army, he lived in Little Rock and worked as a signal maintainer for Missouri Pacific Railroad until his retirement in 1979. He then moved to Pine Bluff. Morris was a member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Rob Grice, and a sister, Elsie Burks.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, June, whom he met in Little Rock after returning from military duty. Other survivors are a sister, Kathleen Vought of Bryant; brother, James Grice, and wife, Lavern, of Kingsland; brother, Virgil Grice, and wife, Mary, of Pine Bluff.

Visitation is Friday from 68 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home in Rison. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 22, at Graves Cemetery at Mt. Elba Baptist Church with Brother Steve Monk and Brother Todd Howard officiating. Pallbearers are Randy Grice, Hubert Grice, Jamie Grice, Rob Grice, Marion Glover, Mack Vought, Curtis Burks and Joe Burks. Memorials may be made to the donors favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of Buie Funeral Home of Rison (870)325-6216.
