Mieko June Hamman, 87, of Woodlawn passed away on May 31, 2023. She was born in Sasebo, Japan on March 15, 1936 to the late Imajiro and Yukiyo Hamamoto.
She attended school and helped raise her siblings after her parents’ death. She came to the United States in 1962 after marrying her first husband and raised their daughter. Later in life, she worked at Pine Bluff Arsenal/NCTR in the janitorial department.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening, fishing, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. She also loved cooking! You knew there was going to be something good to eat when you went for a visit! She was a member of the Diamond Line Dancers.
Mieko is proceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Hamman; her brothers Tokumasa Hamamoto, Tersumasa Hamamoto, and Kiyoshi Hamamoto; her sisters Setsuko Fukishige and Mitsuko Hamamoto; her former husband Jimmie Bailey.
She is survived by her daughter Cathy Blocker of Pine Bluff; her granddaughter Ashley Naylor (Chris) of Woodlawn; her grandson Allan Blocker of Pine Bluff; her great-grandsons Logan Naylor and Coby Naylor of Woodlawn; her brother Kesao Hamamoto of Japan; her sister Umeko Tagawa of Japan; as well as nieces, nephews, and friends.
In respect to Mieko’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking everyone to donate to your local animal shelter. She loved animals and fed every stray that crossed her path.
The family would like to thank everyone for their kind words and sharing their memories. She was a kind and caring woman who would help anyone. She will be greatly missed, but left enough love and memories to last forever.
