Maxine L. Powers age 86 of the Macedonia Community near Rison, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at her home. She was born April 21, 1923, in Rison, a daughter of the late Graham and Elizabeth Tucker Johnson. Mrs. Powers was a 1941 graduate of Rison High School and attended Southern State College, currently Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. She was a member of the following organizations, the Rison E. H. Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and Friends of the Library, and served as an election poll worker for many years. Mrs. Powers enjoyed going to the Cleveland County Nursing Home for Sing Along, the Cleveland County Senior Citizens Center for lunch. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, quilting and cooking Nannie rolls. Mrs. Powers retired from the Arkansas Department of Human Services and was a member of Bethel Number Two Missionary Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband of Forty Five years, John Thomas Powers; two brothers, Bert and Graham Johnson Jr; two grandsons, T. J. Young and Chad Young.
Mrs. Powers is survived by four children and their spouses, Sandra and Horace Deaton of Houston, Texas, Gloria and Trent Young of the Macedonia Community, Gary and Brenda Powers of Milford, Delaware, Joanne and Dan Sneed of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Brent Deaton of Midland, Texas, Scott Deaton of Greenbrier, Lance Powers of Chesapeake City, Maryland, Lynn Powers of Wilmington, Delaware, Amy Powers of Milford, Delaware, Britni Newman of Waco, Texas and Brooke Radabaugh of Leander, Texas. four great grandchildren, Blaze Calderon and Reagan Deaton of Greenbrier, Alyssa Young of Dumas, Sofia Powers of Chesapeake City, Maryland.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Bethel Number Two Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Wade Peddy and Brother Johnnie Brewster officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, April 5, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Buie Funeral Chapel in Rison. Pallbearers are Johnnie Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Buddy Mayers, Johnny Linneman, Frank Eubanks, and Roger Hyatt. Honorary pallbearers are Brent Johnson, Billy Johnson, Randy Hutcheson, Dave Anderson, Henry Anderson, J. W. Anderson, Mack Tooke, Billy Joe Shelby, Chuck Siegismund, Lawrence Spence, Joe Ralph Ashcraft and Larry Ashcraft.
