Mary Leona Thompson

July 18, 1925 — February 25, 2015

Mary Leona Childers Thompson, age 89, of New Edinburg went to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Mrs. Thompson was born July 18, 1925 in Hermitage, a daughter of the late Eurie Childers and Ethel O. Senn Childers. She was very famous for her homemade peanut brittle; her kids always knew brittle would be sent for their class parties at school. Mrs. Thompson enjoyed being outside and working with her flowers. She continued to mow her own yard for as long as she health would allow because she really enjoyed it. Mrs. Thompson was a faithful member of Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church where for a time she was preschool Sunday school teacher. For many years she babysat children and they were all so dear to her heart. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Thompson; sisters, Grace Arnold, Billie June Conard; daughter, Rebecca Saunders; granddaughter, Elizabeth Caster and her best friend Betty McClellan. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Vester Wayne Thompson and wife, Donna of New Edinburg; daughter, Wanda Sue Caldwell and husband, Marvin of Alexander; brothers, Onnie Plice Childers and wife, Rose of Bradenton, Florida, Leon Childers of Ganada, Texas; grandchildren, Wendy Brown and husband, Wesley, Adam Thompson and wife, Crystal, Leona Carol Brown and husband, Cory, Marie Ashley and husband Jefferey, Bryan Kee and wife, Brittany, Heather Kee,Crystal Kee, Tanner Thompson, Trevor Thompson and twelve great grandchildren. Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church near New Edinburg. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church near New Edinburg with Brother Billy Wilson and Brother Cecil Sanders officiating. Pallbearers are Michael Russell, Ricky Sanders, Daniel Thompson, Kenny Hensley, Keith Parker, Roger McClellan; honorary pallbearers are Marshall Parker, Henry Jones, Ronnie Noble, Larry Briant and Aubrey Huddleston. The family would like to express their appreciation to Chapel Woods Health and Rehabilitation staff for their compassion, love and support.
