Martha Jane Downey

Martha Price Downey, age 55 of Bessemer City, North Carolina, formerly of Rison, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, North Carolina. She was born January 29, 1953 at Rison, a daughter of the late Artis and Martha Jean Brown Price. Mrs. Downey was a graduate of Rison High School. She married Robert L. Downey on December 29, 1971 in Gaffney, South Carolina. Mrs. Downey worked in quality control in a sewing plant. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Margaret Saunders and Sammie Price.

Mrs. Downey is survived by her husband, Robert L. Downey of Bessemer City, North Carolina; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Downey Jr. and Rose Marie Kelley of Rison; one brother, Robert Lee Price of Star City; two sisters, Jo Ella York of Rison, Mary Jane Garrett of White Hall.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a .m. Friday August 8, 2008 at Buie Chapel in Rison with Brother Jim Tollison officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2008 at Buie Funeral Home in Rison. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buie Funeral Home of Rison.
