Marie Whitehead

Marie Whitehead, age 87 of North Little Rock, formerly of Rison, passed away Monday, June 7, 2010 in Little Rock. She was born April 18, 1923 in Rison, Arkansas to the late John Martin and Lula Bell Reed Ashcraft. In 1941, Mrs. Whitehead graduated from Rison High School. In 1970, she became an LPN and worked the next 15 years at Bradley County Hospital in the nursery. She was a member of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Pine Bluff. Mrs. Whitehead was preceded in death by her 14 brothers and sisters. Marie married the late Charles W. Whitehead on May 30, 1947. They were together 54 years until his death in 2001. There wasnt a day she didnt miss him.

She is survived by three children; Charles (Teresa) Whitehead of North Little Rock, Iris (Ben) DeVore of Jonesboro, Katy (Bill) Richardson of Bryant; six grandchildren, Micah DeVore of Blytheville, Jared Devore of Mountain Home, Nealon DeVore of Washington, D.C., Sara (Scott) Owen of Cabot, Lisa Richardson of Bryant, Kelli (Beau) Glover of North Little Rock; three great grandchildren, Benjamin and Chance DeVore, Izzac Stephens and eagerly anticipating of a fourth great grandson.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Buie Funeral Chapel in Rison with her nephew, Dewayne Ashcraft officiating. Interment will follow at Rowell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be made to Arkansas Hospice. A special thanks to her caregiver and friend, Faye Cooksey.
