Maria Laverne (Broughton) Johnson

Maria Laverne Broughton-Johnson, 48 years old, was born to Willie B. Broughton on October 5, 1971 at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She came to Arkansas in 1987, where she attended Kingsland High School.  She was the mother of three beautiful children, Malachi (20) and E’Ryja (12) Marks, both of Rison and Mareeka Wainwright (10) of Pine Bluff.  She was a member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church of Rison where Reverend Bobby Young and First Lady Marilyn pastor.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie B. Rainey of Rison and LaVerne Rainey of Kingsland.

She leaves to carry her memories are her husband, Nathaniel Johnson of Fordyce; three children, Malachi, E’Ryja and Mareeka; one brother, William Broughton of Chicago; three sisters, Tammy (Curtis) Marks of Rison, LaTrice James of Wisconsin, Lanease Simpson (Edmond Smith) of Arizona; five nephews, two nieces, two great nieces, one great nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2020 at New Life Missionary Baptist Church, 101 Nevin Road, Rison, Arkansas 71665 with Reverend Bobby Young officiating.  Arrangements are by Buie Funeral Home of Rison.
