Mack D. McCallister of Pine Buff, at the age 88, slipped peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Mack was a retired Cleveland County Treasurer, Cleveland County School Supervisor, and Secretary of the County Board of Education. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, a faithful member of the Pearl Burnham Sunday School Class and the Men's Prayer Breakfast. Mack demonstrated his allegiance to his country through service in the Navy during WW II and the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 32 and a Mason. Mack was a passionate and prolific master gardener and loved sharing the fruits of his passion with everyone. He truly had a servant's heart and was a friend to all. Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Barron and Aline Harris McCallister, a brother, Dodson McCallister, and wives Mildred Mitchell McCallister and Dorothy Langford Merritt McCallister. He is survived by stepson, Randy Merritt (Janice) and step granddaughters, Rhonda and Ashley; stepdaughter, Donna Merritt Harrison and step grandchildren, Leah and Jason. Two step great grandsons, Caleb and Elijah; two step great granddaughters, Sydney and Logan; five nieces and nephews. Memorial services are 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 12 , 2014 at the First United Methodist Church Chapel in Pine Bluff with Reverends David Fleming & Fred Arnold officiating.
