Lonnie Jefferson Sims Jr

Lonnie Jefferson Sims Jr., age 89, of Sheridan, passed away, Friday, August 8, 2014 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born June 13, 1925 in Sarepta, Louisiana to the late Lonnie Jefferson Sims Sr. and Myrtle King Husley. Mr. Sims served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as a body shop manager with Ford Automotive for forty years, before retiring in 1981. In 1998, Mr. Sims moved to Sheridan from Bossier City, Louisiana. He was a 1943 Springhill High School graduate, member of First Baptist Church in Sheridan, retired deacon of Koran Baptist Church in Koran, Louisiana, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Sims enjoyed spending time at his lake house, which was the second love of his life, at Lake Bistineau in Elm Grove, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Geraldine Wilburn; and step-father, C.L. Hulsey. Left to cherish his memory, his wife, of 67 years, Betty Jean Edwards Sims of Sheridan; sons, Ronald Judson Sims Sr. and his wife, Denise of Sheridan, Robert Alan Sims and his wife, Carolyn of Longview, Texas, and Michael Ray Sims and his wife, Alexis of Malvern; daughters, Leni Gayle Woods of Plano, Texas and Brenda Kay Brice and her husband, George of Bossier City, Louisiana; brother, Edwin Lee Hulsey and his wife, Judy of Lindale, Texas; grandchildren, Ronald Judson "Chip" Sims Jr., Katherine Michelle Sims, Jenifer Diane Woods, Donald Kelly Woods Jr., LeeAnn Skinner, Heather Nicole Thrower, Alan Lee Sims, Ryan Joseph Sims, George Alvin "Trey" Brice III, and Hunter Logan Sims; and great-grandchildren, Austin Dale Dotson, Conner Ray James, Tanner Caplinger, Judson Tyler Sims, Austin Dylan Sims, Landon Jacob Sims, Kayleni Brice Thrower, Mckinlee Elizabeth Brice, Hannah Madyson Sims, Brice Everet Thrower, and Rylan Kelly Woods. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 11, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Sheridan with Reverend Ernest DeSoto and Reverend Gary Wilborn officiating. Interment will follow at Lost Creek Cemetery in Sheridan with military honors. Visitation will be 3:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Buie Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan.
