Lillian Elizabeth Owen Rushing, age 95, of Calmer, went to be with her Lord on June 10, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. She was born on August 18, 1912 at Palmyra, a daughter of the late Ed Owen and Julia Crawford McBryde Owen Johnson. Mrs. Rushing was a homemaker, who enjoyed gardening and piecing quilts. She was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Calmer. Mrs. Rushing was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas (Tom) Rushing, whom she married on September 1, 1934; one son, James Edward Rushing; three brothers: Roy Owen, Clarence Owen, and Jesse Owen; two sisters: Mary Fern Owen Blake and Hazel Owen Phillips; half brother, Lawrence Johnson; half sister, Florence Johnson Easley and two grandchildren, Jeanice and Carl Lynn Rushing.
She is survived by three sons: Ira Van Owen of Pine Bluff, David Wayne Rushing of White Hall, and Owen Thomas Rushing of Woodlawn; three daughters: Thelma Rushing Morris of Woodlawn, Barbara Ann Rushing Patrick of Rison, and Linda Rushing Newman of Calmer; twelve grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 13, at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Doney Blackerby and Bro. Matt Donnell officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Buie Funeral Home in Rison. Pallbearers will be Billy Rex Morrison, Thomas Lee White, Dewayne Tooke, and her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her other grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, 8700 Hwy. 63, Rison, Arkansas, 71665. Arrangements are under the direction of Buie Funeral Home of Rison (870-325-6216).
