Julia Mitchell Bowman, 84, of Tifton, Georgia, died Wednesday, August 22, 2012. She was born January 27, 1928, in Rison, a daughter of the late Charlie Mitchell and Lillian McLendon Mitchell. Mrs. Bowman had lived in Tifton since 1962. She was a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas and earned a master's degree from the University of Georgia. She taught school and was County Food Service Director for the Tift County Public Schools. Mrs. Bowman enjoyed reading, playing bridge, and traveling. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tifton, a member of Club 55, Circle #2, and the Christian Covenant Sunday School Class. Mrs. Bowman was also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Mrs. Bowman is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, David and Eugenia Carvalho Bowman of Portugal, Dr. Robert C. and Bonita Bowman of Tifton, and Steven Bowman of Tifton; four grandchildren; Alex Bowman, Andy Bowman, Jonathan Bowman, and Hannah Bowman; one brother, Reverend Edgar Mitchell of Nova Scotia; as well as many nieces and nephews in Arkansas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 25, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church of Tifton with the Reverend Sam Rogers and the Reverend Bruce Sack officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church social hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, c/o Dorothy Royal, 2406 Diana Ave., Tifton, Georgia 31794, or First United Methodist Church Altar Fund, 107 W. 12th St., Tifton, Georgia 31794. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 31, 2012 at Greenwood Cemetery in Rison with Reverend Don Johnson officiating.
