Joyce Elaine (Joy) Shorb died on February 9, 2023 after a protracted illness. She was 86 years old. Born in Schuyler County Illinois on January 5, 1937 to Clyde and Lois David, she grew up in Washington Illinois where she met the love of her life, Jack Shorb. They were married 67 years. Over the years they had homes in Illinois, Iowa, Ohio, Missouri, Arizona and Arkansas. Together, they raised sons Steve, John, and Tom and daughter Pat.
Joy attended the University of Illinois, and worked in retail, banks and savings and loans. Later in life she was awarded the Outstanding Citizen award by the Mayor of Bentonville, Arkansas for her volunteer work removing litter from city parks and talking with young people about civic responsibility.
Joy is survived by her husband Jack Shorb (Searcy AR), sister Pat Burroughs (Edina MN), brother Jim David (West Lafayette IN), daughter Pat Burks (Cabot AR), sons Steve (Atlanta GA), John (Plymouth MI), and Tom (Bentonville AR). She has eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Joy’s life will be held for family at Washington IL, where she will be interred at Glendale Cemetery with members of her family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranches at P.O. Box 3964, Batesville, AR 72503 or at youthranches.com.
