John R. Ellis

John R. Ellis, 78, of Sheridan, passed away at his home Wednesday, July 9, 2008. He was born November 11, 1929 in Woodruff County, a son of the late Thurman Albert and Mittie Duvall Ellis. Mr. Ellis was a retired naval Petty Officer, and a member of Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Nona Scott Ellis; two brothers, James Forest Ellis, Raymond Carl Ellis; three sisters, Sherry Standridge, Irene Johnson, Eva Ruth Perkins.

He is survived by one daughter, Jessie Marie Ellis of Sheridan; three brothers, William Charles, Donald Eugene, and David Miles Ellis, all of Sheridan; four sisters, Thelma Tucker of Ward, Lois Austin of Little Rock, Marie Buie of Prattsville, Vernie Carter of DesArc.

Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2008 at Philadelphia Cemetery in Prattsville with Brother Brad Warren officiating. Please sign the online guestbook at www.buiefuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Buie Funeral Home of Sheridan.
