Joan Gavin

Joan Gavin age 74 of the Rye Community near Rison, died Friday, March 26, 2010 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. She was born September 27, 1935 at Rye, a daughter of the late Carl and Eula Ashcraft Mercer. Mrs. Gavin was a homemaker and a member of Union Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jan Cornwell; brother, J. C. Mercer.

Mrs. Gavin is survived by her husband, Howard Gavin of Rye, whom she married on September 27, 1962; two sons, Thomas Gavin of Rye, Jerry Gavin of El Dorado, Kansas; brother, Floyd Mercer of Dubach, Louisiana; sister, Wilma McKinney of Marion, Louisiana; granddaughter, Alysa Joan Gavin; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2010 at Enon Cemetery with Brother Victor Hunter officiating. Pallbearers are Allen Mercer, Kenneth Mercer, Bobby Mercer, Mike Hodge, David Gannaway and Paul Gannaway. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Mercer, James Mercer, Floyd Gavin, Philip Lowry, Sonny Lowry, Tommy Lowry and Buddy Mercer. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
