Jimmy Ray Smith, age 77, of Sheridan passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at his home. He was born October 24, 1937 in Sheridan, the son of the late James Stergin Smith and Dora Belle Threet Smith. Mr. Smith served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the DAV, NRA, and a member of First Baptist Church in Sheridan. Mr. Smith loved hunting and fishing. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Billy Smith and Pete Smith; and granddaughter, Tawney Chaney Wilson. Left to cherish his memory, long-time companion, Frances Gilbert; sons, James Marvin Smith and his wife, Sammie Jo, Jake Smith both of Sheridan, and Billy Gilbert, Jr. of Hampton; daughters, Regina Waters and her husband, Keith of Prattsville, Sissy Williams and her husband, Charlie of Kilgore, Texas, and Belinda Stell and her husband, Gary of Fordyce; brother, Charles Edward Smith of Prattsville; sisters, Lena Belle Pulliam of Cabot, Mary Ann Ware of Louisville, Texas, and Mildred Jarrett of Sheridan; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, and a slough of friends. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Buie Funeral Home in Sheridan with Pastor Billy McGarity officiating. Burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery in Prattsville. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Buie Funeral Home in Sheridan. Arrangements are by Buie Funeral Home of Sheridan.
