James Elek Shell

December 19, 1932 — April 14, 2017

James E. Shell, 84, also known as 100 Pound to many, Pig to some, formerly of Davenport, IA passed away peacefully April 13, 2017 at The Crossing at Riverside Rehabilitation in Searcy.
He was born December 19, 1932 in Louisville, MS to the late Johnnie and Rosie Fancher Shell.  He spent many of his childhood years growing up in Winston County.  He later met and was joined in Holy Matrimony to Ida Mae Estes in 1952.  To this union eight children were born.  The family relocated to Davenport, IA in 1965.
He lived a fulfilled life.  He retired in 1994 from Thompson Recycling after twenty-six years of service.  He was an avid baseball fan, loved telling jokes, having a good laugh with family and friends and lending a helping hand to others.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Ida Mae Shell; son, Terry Shell; daughter, Wilma Westerfield; two brothers, Johnnie and J.D. Shell; and five sisters, Eddie Mae Gage, Inez Stennis, Verlean LaGrone, Bessie McGee, and Lillie Ashford.
He leaves to celebrate his life four sons, James Shell, Rudolph Shell (Denise), Odell Shell, Keith Shell (Emily) all of Davenport, IA; two daughters, Vernessa McBride of Searcy, AR, Mary Shell (Travis) of Davenport, IA; one sister, Ruby McBride (Grady) of Kosciusko, MS; thirty-two grandchildren, fifty-seven great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017 at Williams Temple C.O.G.I.C. in Searcy, AR.  Funeral Services will follow at 12 Noon.  Cremation will follow services.
