James (J. C.) Gray, age 91, of Sheridan, Arkansas passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2011 in St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock from a concussion due to a serious fall. He was born on December 28, 1919 in Bruno, Arkansas, to the late Oscar Franklin Gray and Edna Chloe Burns Gray. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Grady Gray and Lucian Gray.
He is survived by Mary Rowland Gray, the love of his life for almost 70 years; children and spouses, Brenda and Harvey Stuckey of Sheridan, Glenda Ann Gray of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Robbie and Panos Andronikos of Athens, Greece, Paula and Bill Pokluda of Cocoa, Florida, Paul and Sheila Gray of Jacksonville, Arkansas; one sister, Inis Mae Proctor of Bull Shoals, Arkansas; four grandsons and spouses, David Stuckey of Pasadena, Texas, James and Erica Stuckey of Spring, Texas, Clint Gray of Jacksonville, Arkansas and Alex Andronikos of Athens, Greece; two step-grandsons, David and Sean Pokluda of Cocoa, Florida; one granddaughter, Lori Gray of Jacksonville, Arkansas and many nieces and nephews.
James was a 47 year resident of Sheridan, a Freemason for 50 plus years and retired from Strickland Transportation Company.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Sheridan with Pastor Jason Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Moss Hill Cemetery near Bearden. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2011 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Macular Degeneration Research Program or the Gideons.
