James “Jim” E. Smith, age 81, of Woodlawn passed away on Friday, October 18, 2019. He was born January 24, 1938 in Woodlawn. He was raised in Woodlawn the son of the late Matthew and Arie Smith of Woodlawn. He graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1955 and was a lifelong resident of the Woodlawn Community. Mr. Smith was an artist and drew the first Woodlawn Bear mascot for the yearbook. He retired from International Paper Company in 1995 after 30 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of Pine Bluff Bass Club. He enjoyed playing his guitar with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years Marie A. Smith of Dumas, one son Jimmy Dale Smith of Woodlawn, three great-grandchildren, one brother, Curtis Lee Aud of Woodlawn and two sisters JoAnn Miller and Geneva Peterson both of Woodlawn.
He is survived by his three daughters, Vickie Goodman and her husband Greg of White Hall, Kathy Oxner and her husband Mike of Woodlawn, Tracy Mizell of Woodlawn, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one brother, Will Smith of Woodlawn, one sister, Joyce Campbell of Pine Bluff and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 21, 2019 at Buie Funeral Home in Rison.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Buie Funeral Home in Rison with Bro. Charles Woolley officiating. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. Jim Smith in Woodlawn.
