Ida Margaret Hightower

Ida Margaret Hightower, age 93 of Rison, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2024 in Star City.  She was born January 27, 1931 in Wilmot, AR to the late John L. and Mary Reed Pennington. Ida was known as the “Candy Lady of Rison”, always having candy to give away.  She was a past cheerleader for the Rison Wildcats in the late 1940’s and a devoted fan from then on, always cheering them on from the sidelines.  Ida was a member of Rison Baptist Church and loved spending time with her church family. She enjoyed crafting, painting, and dancing. She will be dearly missed by all.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Allen Hightower, siblings, Ted Pennington, Argus Lee “Pete” Pennington, David Pennington, Mary Faye Anderson, Virginia Jo Kytle, Eugene Granderson, and an infant brother.

She is survived by her stepdaughters, Linda Cullom and Donna Woodson, and by numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family request a donation in Ida’s name to Rison Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Rison Baptist Church in Rison, AR with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
