Hugh James Patrick, age 91, of Rowell, AR went to Heaven on March 16, 2023 at McClellan VA Hospital in Little Rock, AR.
Mr. Patrick was born November 26, 1931 at Rowell. He attended Woodlawn High School and enjoyed playing baseball on local teams, many games being played on the Pansy Baseball Field. Afterwards, he served his country by entering the United States Army during the Korean era. Proceeding him in death were his parents, William Joseph Patrick and Gillian Hall Patrick, sons, James Steven Patrick and William Leon Patrick, sisters, Jean Pierce, Patricia Brittian, Maxine Reed, brothers, Joe David Patrick, Bobby Patrick and Wilburn Patrick.
Mr. Patrick is survived by the love of his life for 65 years, Shirley French Patrick.
He is also survived by his sister, Charlene Jones of Rye, and his brother, Billy Patrick of Mt. Ida, and sister- in- law, Glenda Patrick of Star City.
In addition, Mr. Patrick is survived by four daughters: Debra Patrick of Rowell, Cheryl Patrick of Rowell, Sonya Taylor (Jerry) of Warren, and Stacy Cox of Warren. Surviving sons of Mr. Patrick are Jeffery Patrick ( Lori) of Herbine, Gregory Patrick of Rowell, and Tracy Patrick (Jennifer) of Star City.
Mr. Patrick was Palpa Hugh James to eleven grandchildren: April French Morrison, Kenny French, Meagan Fenters, Brittany Lindley, Heather Long, Cassie Rice, Emily Patrick, Brandon Patrick, Haley Whimkey, Holly Hobbs, and Hunter Cox. His twenty- two great-grandchildren are Owen Morrison, Hugh Patrick Morrison, Jett Morrison, Lucy Mae Morrison, Knox Morrison, Hattie Belle Fenters, Ollie Fenters, Miles Fenters, Heidi Long, Huck Long, Blakely Lindley, Kylie Gilbreth , Cash Lindley, Ace Patrick, Cannon Patrick, Tripp Patrick, Paisley Johnson, Maci Hobbs, Nate Hobbs, Noah Hobbs, Emi Whimkey, and Beau Whimkey.
Mr. Patrick was a retired self employed logger, and cattle farmer.
In past years, he was an avid hunter, being the founder of Friendly Hunting Club, and the Patrick -Reed Hunting Club many years ago.
Center Missionary Baptist Church of Rowell was his home church where he faithfully attended.
Mr. Patrick loved family and valued family time and traditions. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were such a joy to him. He began the annual Patrick Family Reunion with goals of sharing the importance of family, and making lasting memories for them and others in years to come.
Some special things this Palpa will always be remembered for is the Juicy Fruit chewing gum in his pocket , apples, teaching littles ones how to hold a baseball bat properly, his humor, sitting in a swing, and the importance of a strong work ethic. Mr. Patrick's wish for all of his family was to meet him on the "other side" . Always, when leaving , his goodbyes were "See you later."
He will be forever missed by his loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be Sunday, March 19, at 2 PM at Center Missionary Baptist Church at Rowell with Brother Doney Blackerby officiating. Burial will be in Rowell Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-7 PM March 18 at Center Missionary Baptist Church.
