Hugh D. Arnold, age 83 of the Harmony Community near Pine Bluff, died, Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at the Arkansas Heart Hospital. He was born December 31, 1928 in Leola, a son of the late John and Augusta Gilzow Arnold. Mr. Arnold retired from Union Camp in Savannah, Georgia, and was the owner of Hugh Arnold Grocery. He was a member of First Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church where he was a deacon and an adult Sunday school teacher for many years. Mr. Arnold was an avid Hunter and fisherman, and was a member of Glendale Hunting Club. He is also preceded in death by four brothers, John Henry Arnold, Murry Arnold, G. B. Arnold and Forrest Ballard Arnold; two sisters, Jimmie Arnold Stringer and Leona Arnold Evans; two great grandchildren, Madison Smith and Tanner Smith. Mr. Arnold is survived by his wife of sixty two years, Jean Arnold of Pine Bluff, whom he married on July 8, 1949; son, Hugh Richard Arnold of White Hall; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda Arnold Smith and Tony of Jesup, Georgia; one brother, Pete Arnold of Wichita, Kansas; three sisters, Zetha Arnold Johnson of Sheridan, Shirley Arnold Tubbs of Plano, Texas and Marguerite Arnold Curley of Garland, Texas ; two grandchildren, JaMark Smith and Erica of Jesup, Georgia, Dusty Smith of Savannah, Georgia; two great grandchildren, Presley Smith and Avery Smith of Jesup, Georgia. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2012 at First Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Robert Cossey and Mr. Arnold Stringer officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery near Rison. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00p.m., Friday, January 6, 2012 at Buie Funeral Home in Rison. Pallbearers are Tony Smith, JaMark Smith, Bob Harris, James Edwards, Marion Glover and Arnold Stringer. Honorary pallbearers are Bonnie Smith, Johnny Johnson, Leon Slaughter, Danny Arnold, Joe Glover and Rick Norton. Memorial may be made to First Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 1500 West 73rd Avenue, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71603. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buie Funeral Home of Rison (870)325-6216.
