Hubert Roberts

Reverend Hubert Lelon Roberts of Rison went to be with Jesus on Saturday, January 17, 2009 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Rison, Arkansas, on May 30, 1933, to the late John Benjamin Roberts and Ida Maude Akines Roberts. He was a retired minister, paint and building contractor for years. He was known for building churches, cabinets, hutches, gun cabinets, coffins, furniture, woodworks, and houses. He loved to preach and talk about Gods Word, see souls saved for Christ, play his guitar and sing praises to Jesus. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He never met a stranger and those who knew him, knew how much he loved to talk, tell experiences and stories of events in his life. The Lord used Hubert to build four churches and pastor three of them. He was also in a gospel singing group, Roberts Brothers Gospel Singers, spreading Gods love in music. In the early 60s he was a member of the Country Serenades. Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by four brothers, Carl, William, Doyle and Charles Roberts and six sisters, Ruthie Turner, Eunice Payne, Ethel Jones, Sybil McCann, Agnes Hopper and Rosie Lybrand.

He is survived by his wife of fifty three years, whom he married on June 25, 1955, Dovie Marie Kennedy Roberts, one daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Terry Paul of Rison; twin grandchildren, Brittany Paul of Little Rock and Bryan Paul of Rison; one sister, Elvalee Roberts Sipes and a host of nieces, family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm. Monday, January 19, 2009 at Buie Funeral Chapel in Rison with Reverend Paul Pickens, Reverend C. M. Carey and Reverend Harry Puterbaugh officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Buie Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Tommy Turner, Ivan Lawrence, Jerry Dale Paul, Dink Lybrand, Dennis Sipes, Clyde McDaniel, Jerry Lee Paul, Terry Thompson, Donnie Roberts, Clifton Billings and Ricky Wilson. Honorary pallbearers are Herman Brown and Bobby Turner. Memorials may be made to Double Wells Assembly of God Church or Garrett Bridge Assembly of God Church, c/o P. O.
