Homer J. Davis

Homer J. Davis, age 88, of Grapevine, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. He was born July 21, 1927 in Grapevine, the son of the late Joe Davis and Ethel Jane Taylor Davis. Mr. Davis is a United States Army Veteran having served in World War II and the Korean War. He retired from the Cotton Belt after working for over thirty years. He was a Mason, a lifetime member at the Taylor Lodge, as well as a faithful member of Bethany #1 Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a great encourager in the church. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. Mr. Davis is preceded in death by his parents; wives, Catherine Lorene Davis and Dollie Jean Davis; two sisters, and four brothers.

Left to cherish his memory, sons, Rommie Davis of Grapevine and Donald Wayne “Buddy” Davis of Grapevine; step-son, Truman Moltz of Pine Bluff; daughter, JoAnn Kimmel of Grapevine; step-daughters, Marsha Holloway of Sheridan, Glenda Nugent of St. Louis, Missouri, and Nan Mahoney of Grapevine; grandchildren, Michael Kimmel, Kevin Kimmel (Brandi), Jeffrey Davis (Wildonia), and Jennifer Brantley (Daniel); six step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and fifteen step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Bethany #1 Missionary Baptist Church in Grapevine with Brother Roger Taylor and Brother Jon Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Black Cemetery near Grapevine. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Buie Funeral Home in Sheridan. Pallbearers are Kevin Kimmel, Michael Kimmel, Jeffrey Davis, Daniel Brantley, Andy Mahoney, and Brian Holloway. Arrangements are by Buie Funeral Home of Sheridan.
