Herman H. Word, age 97 of Rison, died, Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the Cleveland County Nursing Home in Rison. He was born September 2, 1911 in Kingsland, a son of the late Edwin Sebastian Word and Nora Caroline May Word. Mr. Word was in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was a former Justice of the Peace, member of the Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 690, American Legion post 83, where he served as Chaplin. Mr. Word was a retired carpenter and farmer; was a member of Rison Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Irene McRae Word, whom he married on September 12, 1942; one grandson, Jason Rogers, six brothers and five sisters.

Mr. Word is survived by one son, Ronnie Dale Word of Rison; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nora and Bobby Terry of Rison, Brenda and Randy Morgan of Lewisville, Texas, Ann and Ray Clement of Rison; eight grandchildren, Kristy Lowery, Mona Terry, Billy Morgan, Robert Morgan, Laura Greenway, Stephen Greenway, Wendy Hill and Luke Word; five great grandchildren, Jackson Lowery, Jessica Lowery, Lexy Blevins, Ally Edwards and Kailee Morgan.

Funeral services are 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Rison Baptist Church with Brother Wade Totty officiating. Burial will follow in the Varnell Cemetery. Visitation is 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 17, 2009 at Buie Funeral Home in Rison. Deacons will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Rison Baptist Church, P. O. Box 404, Rison, Arkansas 71665. Arrangements are under the direction of Buie Funeral Home of Rison (870)325-6216.
