Helen Hufft Hopson, age 76, of Rison died Friday, November 20, 2015. Mrs. Hopson was born June 25, 1939 in New Orleans, Louisiana, a daughter of the late Louis and Mary Hufft. Helen grew up in New Orleans, later moving to Arkansas. She obtained her college education and teaching degree from Louisiana State University and the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Mrs. Hopson was a unique, dedicated, teacher for twenty-four years, touching the lives of many. Mrs. Hopson always taught from her heart and was remembered by each student. She continued working in education, serving as sales representative for twenty-two years with textbook publishers. Helen served over thirty years on the Board of Southeast Arkansas Behavioral Health in Pine Bluff, five years on the United States Draft Board and two years on the Rison Housing Board. She was a faithful member of Rison United Methodist Church, a member of the Wesleyanna's group and taught Sunday school for all ages. Mrs. Hopson was associated with the Bank of Rison for many years, serving on the Board of Directors for three years. She loved reading, playing bridge, cooking, ironing and doing crafts. Mrs. Hopson enjoyed visiting with friends and looking for an opportunity to help others. Helen was married to Jim Hopson for fifty-one wonderful years, whom died January 25, 2011. Mrs. Hopson had unconditional love for her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Jack Meyer and sister, Carmella Martin.
Survivors include her son, Cliff Hopson and wife, Rhonda of Rison; grandchildren, Isabella Hopson, Avery Hopson, Austin Heflin, all of Rison; brother, Louis Hufft and wife, Jane of New Orleans, Louisiana and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 23, 2015 at Rison United Methodist Church with Reverend Ike Mohr and Reverend Don Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Free House Cemetery at New Edinburg. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Sunday, November 22, 2015 at the home. Pallbearers are Trigger James, John Culpepper, Sid Tatum, John Blanchard, Mark Attwood and Jay England; honorary pallbearers are Jim Ed Attwood, Rufus T. Buie, James Powell, Charles Rodgers, Frank Wilson, David McKinney and Lewis Releford. Memorials can be made to Rison United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Buie Funeral Home of Rison.
