Gwendolyn Mitchell Granderson Douglass, age 90, of Thornton, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 29, 2015 in Fordyce. Mrs. Douglass was born August 21, 1925 at Kingsland, a daughter of the late Wallace E. Mitchell and Mary Jewell Graves Mitchell. She enjoyed being a volunteer and member of the Dallas County Hospital Auxiliary. If you asked others to describe her, their description would be friendly, always had time and a smile for everyone. Mrs. Douglass was a homemaker, she loved cooking and spending time with her family. She was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church in Fordyce. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jimmy W. Granderson; granddaughter, Renata Simmons; great grandson, Trae Simmons; brothers, Roy Mitchell, Arnold Mitchell; sisters, Polly Mitchell and Kathleen Ferguson. Survivors include her son, Michael D. Granderson and wife Sissy, of Pine Bluff; daughters, Charlotte Clark and husband Pat, of Van Buren, Gwenda Hearnsberger of Thornton; daughter-in-law, Harriet Granderson of Robstown, Texas; siblings, Doris Lisemby of Florida, Helen Goggans of Kingsland, Laverne Rotton of Boyd, Texas, Wanda Newton of Victoria, Texas, James W. Mitchell of Sweeney, Texas; Eleven grandchildren and Thirteen great grandchildren. Graveside services are 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 2, 2015 at Graves Cemetery near Kingsland with Brother Mike White officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Tim May, Aaron May, Jason May, David Granderson, David W. Granderson, James Michael Granderson, Justin Hearnsberger and Kyle Hearnsberger. Memorials can be made to Southside Baptist Church of Fordyce.
