Grady May

July 8, 1938 — April 10, 2008

Reverend Grady L. May age 69 of the Woodlawn Community, went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 10, 2008. He was born July 8, 1938 in Blytheville, a son of the late Sam and Iva Mae Pipkins May. Reverend May graduated from Glendale High School. He had worked for Ben Pearson, Central Maloney, Wonder Bread and twelve years at the Pine Bluff Fire Department. Reverend May was past President of Pine Bluff Firefighters Association, past President of Professional Firefighters of Arkansas, twenty two years as International Ladies Garment Workers Union Representative and later became District Manager for the Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma District. He was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church where he taught the teenage class for three generations, was Annual Conference Delegate for twenty years. Reverend May has been the Pastor of Martin Chapel United Methodist Church for the past four years. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Chester and Charles Ingram; sister, Mary Bostain and Fannie Lou Harrison.

He is survived by his wife of forty seven years, Margaret Ann Wilson May of the Woodlawn Community; two sons and daughter-in-law, Dennis May of Searcy, Jimmy and Shawna May of Fordyce; three sisters, Lois Widner and Helen Loyd both of Blytheville, Judy Minton of Pine Bluff; five grandchildren, Amy, Jonathon, Jason, Derek and Stew; one great granddaughter, Ava.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Buie Funeral Home in Rison with Reverend William Paul Woolley officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.m. Friday, April 11, 2008 at Buie Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Jason May, Jonathan May, Derek May, Stew Ballard, Ken Thornton and Hugh Allen Beasley. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Hampton Sr. Boys Basketball team. Memorials may be made to the Martin Chapel United Methodist Church, Highway 8 South, Hermitage, Arkansas 71647. Arrangements are under the direction of Buie Funeral Home of Rison (870) 325-6216.
