Gladys Mullens

March 28, 1942 — August 6, 2015

Gladys Marie Bass Smith Mullens was born March 28, 1942, to Allen and Thedora Bass in Little Rock, AR, and passed away on August 6, 2015, at her home in Searcy, Arkansas.  Gladys was a beloved member of the Downtown Church of Christ.

Gladys worked for twenty-five years as a switch board operator for Pacific Bell and Southern Bell.  Later she was employed by USAA in the finance department as a stock market quote operator.  Gladys had a huge compassion for the Kairos Organization as both a mentor and speaker.  Her personal journey of survival was an inspiration to all there.

In the last few years, her love for elderly people led her to a position of supporting families in caring for their loved ones.  Before becoming unable to continue, she was employed by Addus Home Care, based in Little Rock, AR.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bobby Jewel Bass; her husband, Albert Dillon Mullens; and her son, Frank Will Smith IIl.

Left to cherish her memory are three sons, Robert “Rason” Bass of Vallejo, CA,  Charles “Charlie” Smith of Sacramento, CA, and Darren Smith of Vallejo, CA; three daughters, Fredia Smith of Sacramento, CA, Ophelia Williams (Albert) of Warren, Ohio, Tammy Shula of Little Rock, AR;             17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rita Jones of Vallejo, CA and Veronica “Cookie” Kaiser of Glendale, AZ, and a host of nephews and nieces.  She also is cherished by her Downtown church family in Searcy, AR.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 12, 10:00 a.m. at the Downtown Church of Christ.  A memorial service will follow at 11:00.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Searcy Children’s Home.
