George L.B. Wilkins

George L.B. Wilkins, 79, of Sheridan passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at his home. He was born September 27, 1928 in Blue Ball, Arkansas in Yell County to the late Oscar and Willie Garner Wilkins. Mr. Wilkins was a member of Freewill Baptist Church. On April 14, 1947 he married Dorothy Bailey in Rison, Arkansas. He was a cotton and soybean farmer until 1970, and a truck driver for Wilkins Construction Company until he retired in 2005. Mr. Wilkins was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed all types of sports with a love for turkey and deer hunting. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Buck Wilkins, Albert Wilkins, Bobby Wilkins and Bill Wilkins; two sisters, Vada Love and Vilie Harper.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Bailey Wilkins of Sheridan; son, Rex Allan Wilkins of Hensley; two daughters, Shirley Wilson of Pine Bluff, and Lisa Garrison of Sheridan; two brothers, Lee Wilkins of Redfield, and Pete Wilkins of Pine Bluff; sister, Ethel Clemmons of Pine Bluff; five grandchildren, Chip Bratcher, Heather Kramer, Anna Tucker, Clayton Garrison and Kimmy Garrison; step-granddaughter, Heather Singley; step great-grandson, Hank Singley and two expected great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2007 at Buie Funeral Chapel with Brother Billy Charles Byrd and Brother Buddy Fowler officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery near Sheridan. Pallbearers are: David Fitzgerald, David Gatzke, David Wilkins, Johnny D. Harp, Stan Bailey, Aaron Bailey and Jimmy Doyle. The family suggests memorials be made to Little Creek Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Buie Funeral Home of Sheridan. (870) 942-3231.
